Unemployment impact on my relatives

I recently got laid off. I'm concerned this may impact my close relatives.

I plan to invite my father for a visit and I believe that requires an employment letter to show my current income (but I don't have one). Also, I've filed I-130 petition for a brother in China and I wonder if my unemployment status will affect his wait time, or worse, eligibility.

I was advised to apply for unemployment benefit. I wonder collecting the benefit will make the situation worse.

Any input?

If you remain unemployed 12 years from now you may have issues with the petition, but you'll probably have bigger problems then.

Not at all! Claim UI, that's what it's there for.

Unemployment benefits are earned as part of an insurance program. They are avaiable to USCs and LPRs. You should apply for benefits if you qualify and take advantage of the services offered by the state employment agency to assist in you locating a new position.
