Uncle & family - American citizens

Hi all,

Ok, so I'm 18, was born and lived all my life in Ireland, so have Irish citizenship. I'm planning to do a 4 year Bsc in computer science this year, and as soon as I graduated I would love to move to Boston or Seattle, its been pretty much a life long dream of mine to go to the US.

Now I'm wondering (I know it's not for a few years yet) how I could get permission to live in the states, I have an uncle who has US citizenship as does all of his family (children, wife) will this help me in anyway.

I just want to know what I would have to do? there are so many visa's and I'm confused, could anyone tell me the easiest way to get permission to live (and work - though obviously I have no job over there yet) in the states?

Can I apply now to move over in 4 years time? I'm sorry if this is a repetitive and simple minded post, but I'm not very sure about the process.

Thanks very much,

Tim

Your uncle cannot sponsor you.

Your best bet is to find an American employer after you graduate.

Thanks for your reply bud,

Would you happen to know, are Canadian citizens, or those who have permanent residence eligibilty able to work or live in the states?

I ask, becuase I'm eligible to live in Canada, and I saw Canada in your sig.

Many thanks.

If you are a citizen of Canada you can live and work in the US on a TN visa

Provided your job and educational qualifications match, and are on the NAFTA list. That's a big if.

The OP stated that he plans to get a 4 year computer science degree so if he is a citizen of Canada he get TN visa for say computer systems analyst which only requires a Bachelors degree

Provided his job qualifies as that of a systems analyst.

Besides, if he reads through the TN forum long enough, he'll discover that a TN is a lousy way to live long-term in the US.
