Hi there, I know for sure that to EXIT and ENTER the US Territory you only need GREEN CARD OR RTD, OR RP Whatever you have. (some stupid IO might ask you at POE why dont you have a Passport) but they will let you in for sure as that's what the CBP entry and exit requirements say only one document is required.
As of entering CANADA I have no IDEA if they let you in only with GC you can call their consulate
Travelled to Canada last year. Specifically gave both IOs (Canadian and American) my GC first to see if they would be Ok with just a GC. They both asked me for a passport. So my assumption was that yuou can get around with just GC only when you are travelling by car. I am not so sure if the rule applies when you take a flight.
U have to have passport with ur green card. or njust american passport if u have one. They changed it on Jan 08th 2008 b4 that date u can enter into Canada and USA with ur green card only.

Yeap it only applies to US and Canadian Citizens not to Foreign nationals (like us) so Green card is more than ok to travel outside of US or enter the US. Note: OUTSIDE I mean to exit the US. The Country where you are heading might have other requirements for entry like Travel document or Passport or Visas. So you must research those requirements qith the embassy of the country you want to go in this case Call the Canadian Embassy and ask them what do you need to enter Canada as a PR of the USA.
Thankfull ......................according to my understanding ............if u have a green card U MUST HAVE UR COUNTRY 'S PASSPORT TO ENTER INTO CANADA and then enter into USA .........correct me if i m wrong.
