Travelling to Canada to get a new I 94

Hi , I am in USA on B 1 visa for Clinical clerkship which is a part 3rd and 4th year of my medical school curriculum( Caribbean medical school) . My I 94 is valid till aug 17th 2010 and i have a multiple entry B1 visa valid till next year . I was wondering if i travel to Canada just before my I 94 expires and enter US after its expiration would i be able to get a new I 94 with a new expiration date considering i can't use my old one anymore ?

I read a lot about the 30 day rule which applies to visiting Canada , Mexico and neighboring Caribbean islands and from what i have understood is that if my visits to above mentioned places exceeds 30 days i am eligible for a new I 94 . Incase i visit canada ( not more than 30 days ) and return to US within the validity of my previous I 94 would i be issued a I 94 with a new expiration date or it would have the same expiration date as the old( original ) one ?

Both questions that i have posted , i am taking into considerations two different situations so i would greatly appreciate if anyone knows anything on this. I would greatly appreciate the feed back.

Thanks

I am not an expert on this...but based on information that I have read, for B1/B2 visas I think you need to leave the whole North American continent and re-enter in order to get a new I-94. So that means going to Canada and Mexico and returning back to US is not going to help in getting an extended I-94.

I agree. You can also apply to extend your stay here. That way, you can stay in the country while you wait for their decision, at least, and if they approve it, you're set.

Hey i have already extended it so i can't extend it again and have to leave USA . I have been reading several threads on this website about people going to canada or mexico and they are getting new I 94 if their previous one is no longer valid with a valid B1/B2 visa . But i want a concrete answer . Do any of you know if it would be a better idea to make an INfo pass appointment and talk to the immigration officer directly? I would greatly appreciate the feed back on this.

B1/B2 is a temporary visa. Your state you have already extended it once. Only one extension is allowed as you apparently know. Exiting in order to get a new long I-94 is not likely to work. You should be packing to return home since you are working/studying on an extended basis and should have obtained a visa permitting such.

Since this is part of your school curriculum, your school should have and should now make proper arrangements for you.

If you surrender your I-94 on the way out, you will get a new I-94 if allowed re-entry. However, you may be denied re-entry, bear that in mind.

I'm interested in knowing why isn't possible to travel at the speed of light. I know something changes dramatically and I wanted to know specifaclly what would happen to a human travelling at that speed.
