Travelling overseas while on H1B

I entered united states on a B2 (visitors visa) & then got it converted to a H1B which is valid until 2009.Since i havent left United States i dont have a visa issued on my passport my employer is advising me not to leave the country because i could get a denial from the american counsulate in india even though i have a valid work permit & a job.
I wanted to know if anyone has anything to share about this & any opinions would be appreciated.:)

How many days after you came to US on B2 visa your employer filed B2 to H1 Change of status petition?

How could you stay on B2 for 8 months normally they give I-94 on B2 visa for 6 months only? Change of status after 8 months seem to be safe but nobody can predict US consulate. Why not to try US consulate in Canada or Mexico for H1 visa stamping. For more info you should talk to your or your company Lawyer not to your employer, as employer is not expert for giving legal updates but your lawyer can explain you in detail
 
Well i applied for an extension of my B2 visa & so my visitors was valid until september & in the mean time got my change of status approved.
