I apologize if this issue has already been addressed in a different thread .
I am a Canadian & renewed by TN Visa by Mail in May of 2015 - it is now valid till 2018. I have the my TN Visa & I- 94 TN from the Previous Renewal through the border. I will be travelling to India what should documents I should be carrying for reentering the US ( other than the new TN Renewal)

Regards

Rohit

Nothing. the I-94 that was issued with your I-129 approval should already be stapled into your Passport, and is your new I-94. You could carry the I-797 renewal notice, but not really needed.

Thanks for your Reply , I did not clearly explain my situation
1. my Older I-94 issued in 2012 is attached to My Passport .
2. My 1-797 Renewal Notice issued in 2015 has an I-94 but is not attached to my passport . I have not travelled outside N America since the Renewal.

I had gone from TN to H1 via COS. H1 kicked in on Oct-1 (I kept my TN on the side in a safe location and attached the I-94 in 797 to my passport). I then traveled to Canada over thanksgiving and upon my return, the CBP agent told me that he was the one who had to actually remove the new I94, process it and then staple it to my passport. In the end, they ended up giving us new physical I-94 cards (h1 for me and h4 for my dependents).

What I am trying to say is that either you could just staple the new I94 to your passport and if questioned, show them the 797 or just travel with your passport as-is and upon your return, present to them the renewal notice with new I94 and let them process it by themselves

I already told you what to do: staple the new I-94 in your passport like you should have the day you received it.
Mister's experience is unusual, since if he had not returned to Canada, how would his passport indicate his status.

Attach the I-94 now, and carry the I-797.

Rule is if you travel between NAFTA countries yours' I94 and TN still valid.
If you go outside north america when you fly back you will apply NEW TN. I was travelling from UK and immigration told me TN is different he was friendly, gave me new TN based on soft copy on my laptop & latest pay stub.

Your I-94 may be invalid if your travel outside N America (not only NAFTA region btw), but, as you found out, your TN itself remained intact. he merely gave you a new I-94, not a new TN.
