Can I travel while my N-400 is in process? And if YES for how long??? Not more than 6 months?? I have met my physical presence requirements. I have been 284 days outside the US in total, in trips that didn't last more than 3 months.

Thnx

Any suggestion or idea will help :)

You can travel, but you still must meet the requirements for naturalization (including continuous residency) up until your interview.

Thanx for your reply Bobsmyth, I think I have met my requirements I am not going to travel more than 6 months, not even close to that, I lived in the same district prior to applying for more than 3 months, I havent traveled since the summer of 2006, and I have applied way after my 5 years requirement. I just don't know if the rules as a GC holder are the same as prior to applying and durig the process.

Yes, they are. Of course, take your passport and your GC with you when you travel. There is no special need to tell the border inspector on the way back into the US that you have a pending citizenship application. The application itself does not confer any special benefit or privilege - you are a LPR until the day you take the oath. As well, you will want to keep an accurate record of your deaprture from and arrival back into the US. You can use this information to update your application at the time of your interview.

The requirements for naturalization are the same right up until the time you take your oath, so even if you travel after a successful interview, but before you take the oath, you will have to meet continuous residence and physical presence (as well as all other) criteria.

Thnx yummyk I will keep the dates of my travel, and update it when I am take the interview.

Just keep in mind you'll have to be in the US to do the finger prints and for the Interview and for the Oath as well. Some people have had very little notice by the time they got their interview letter and the actual interview (sometimes as close as a day before). So you never know when you'll have to be back. So depending on how long your trip is, just make sure you can easily be able to suddenly drop everything and immediatly fly back to the US (have lots of money for the last min plane fares etc).

Just something to think about...
