Traveling while waiting...

Hi board!!
I'm a conditional permanent resident(Asylee) waiting for his green card to finished being processed who'd like to travel to Paris for a Music Conference early to mid July. I'd like to know if I have enough time to apply for a Travel Document now, and how long it takes. Today's the 14th of February 2004. How long does it take? and will I have to get Advance Parole, what reason could I use for traveling abroad? Also when obtaining this Travel Document. What other documents will be SAFE to carry on me for EASY REENTRY INTO THE U.S?
Can I still use my country's passport or NOT? or will the travel document be the only thing I'll need?
When applying for this Travel Document, will I also need to apply for a reentry permit in addition to the travel document?
This thing's confusing...I can't miss this conference, yet I'm scared to go to Europe and not being allowed back on U.S soil

What is "conditional permanent resident(Asylee)" supposed to mean?

You can check the wait time for RTD at the link. If I were you I would apply right now. I travel to Europe every month and all you need is the RTD I keep with me copy of the Granted Asylum but no IO ever asked for that at the border. I never keep the national passport with me (it's expired anyway). Traveling to France it's been discussed many time in the forums so you might try search the topic since I think France doesn't recognize RTD. I been driving in and out France many times no one checks passports inside EU but I always have schengen visas from Italy (it's easy to get one) on the RTD.
Welcome to the boards..

I know for sure that there are ways to get RTD within 1 week, but it costs around 500$. Check with immigration lawyer. Take your RTD, ID, SS card and that should make it. The most important is your RTD. They can't deny your entry if you have a valid RTD.

Welcome to the boards..

You can travel to any Europe country (Germany for ex) and drive to France. There are no borders in EU. Choose the closest country and go.

Thanx guys!!
Great responses!!
so I should:
1) get a RTD
2) get a French visa
3) Carry my Driver's Licence & SS Card on me

And that's it???
wow..This was simpler than I thought. As far as the wait time, I understand it's at least 90 days? Another question is: I'm I only required to travel to France and France alone? or does an RTD allow "multiple destinations"?
Or as one of you mentioned, I can hop on a train to different european locations since they have no borders in the EU.

Now reentry:
When should someone apply for reentry ? under which circumstances?

Ok to sum it all.

1) You just need to apply for RTD ok? That is used to enter and exit the country based on the time-length of the document.
2) France doesn't recognize RTDs and they wont issue you a Visa on a RTD. Period. End of story.
3) To get to France, You can go to Germany which doesnt require a visa for RTD holders and then take a train to France and then take a train back to Germany.
4) You can travel the world with the RTD..multiple destinations..you can go to anatartica..then Iceland..then even Alaska..or north pole! It dont matter. Just dont go to the forbidden land(i.e your home country).

You are not asylee from any of the european countries right? like romania?? or even Russia?
