---Traveling to Egypt on RTD. Please Help---

OK so here is my deal. I received my asylum approval a little over a year ago and currently I am awaiting processing on my GC application package (Just sent last week so no further info yet.) My father had a stroke back in December while not in COP. I tried to go be with him and the rest of my family but I was denied the visa (Normally I don't need one to where he was but because I can't use my NP, I applied for a visa and was denied.)

Now my family is moving my dad to finish out his physical therapy in Cairo (I am not Egyptian) and I am trying to go to join them. Again, I normally don't need a Visa to visit Egypt on my NP but of course that's not an option so I went to the Egyptian consulate to apply for a visa and they told me because I am a refugee using an RTD, it will take anywhere from 6-8 weeks to hear a response (From Cairo I suppose) and it may very well not be affirmative.

My question is: Has anyone recently applied for a Visa to Egypt using an RTD? I would love to know what your experience was or if you were approved or denied. Also, if anyone has been in my situation before where you had to apply for a visa on an RTD to a country where your nationality doesn't normally need a visa. I guess I am just trying to figure out if it will take that long and what my options are if I am denied. I don't have my GC yet and according to USCIS I probably won't for 6 months or more. I know I can't use my NP but I am also worried that I will be denied the egyptian visa. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks:)

use your NP and go to cairo,

i use my NP all the times to visit kuwait, iam not from kuwait, my family lives there,

kuwait and the rest of the arabic world dont recognize RTD

I am not supposed to use my NP. I don't even have my greencard yet. Do you? How do you get back into the US with your NP? Doesn't that give you problems with immigration coming in?

No you have to have both an RTD and your NP. Use your NP to enter egypt and leave it, and use your RTD to enter the States. If you had to explain why u used your NP, just explain to them u had to travel to egypt and u could not have done on the DHS RTD!

Cafeconleche, have you gotten an Egypt visa on RTD from the US? How long did it take you?

You should be okay to use your NP as long as don't visit COP and you have the reason for using it if ever be questioned. In my opinion using NP should not be a big issue.

OK I am getting a lot of advice saying that I should use my NP to enter Egypt and my RTD to enter the US and that immig will not give me a hard time given that I am not going to COP. Anyone have advice to the contrary or stories that happened to self or friends that negate that advice? I am just trying to look at both sides

Also, if anyone recently applied for GC after a year as an asylee, please private me and tell me how it has gone as far as time and such. I don't want to leave for Cairo until I get my biometrics done and I am wondering how long that has taken for people to get that letter recently. Texas is my assigned field office and the USCIS website says that they are looking at cases from July30th of 2008 but I am not sure where biometrics fits into that.

Thanks to everyone for their help :-)

I applied for Egyptian visa on RTD end of Dec. 2008, I got a call from them in Feb 2009 that my visa was denied .. I asked why? they said we don't know, this is the response that came from Cairo and they don't mention the reason for Denial .. Just Yes or No

Hi, I was not in town for a while. I haven't ever applied for a visa for Egypt, but I remember reading on this forum a couple of times that people have been given visas on RTDs and have traveled to Egypt. But, if you feel comfortable using your NP, go for it.

I don't. I have no idea if I should but I need to see my Dad. I am being told that it's OK and that an IO won't care if my RTD has no stamp on it and that all that they care about when I come back in that I have an RTD to enter with. Anyway, I am going to wait a little while to see if I get my GC because then it seems using an NP is less of a problem. I am not planning on renewing my NP. It's good until NOV so I can use it this time but then I know I cant renew it and that's fine. I don't know. I just want more opinions and/ or experiences.
