Travel with TN and approved H1B

Hi All,

I am currently on TN Visa (Canadian) for the past one year. My H1B got approved and is effective October 2025 and I haven't got converted to H1B yet.

I am intending to travel outside US to India to visit my grand mother for family emergency. I intend to re-enter US with TN and get converted to H1B later.

Some people are saying that if I re-enter US on TN then my H1B will get invalidated and I cannot convert later. Is this true?

Entering on one valid status does not invalidate another.

But are you sure you are not already in H1-B status since October 1? Most H1-B approvals for someone already in legal status in US are automatically switched to H1-B on 10/1. Check if there is an I-94 attached to your approval notice.
