Travel with the stamp

Hello,
I won the green card and I am going back to my home country sometimes in November for the interview. If everything goes fine, I should get my green card and from my understanding, at that point, I will get a stamp in my passport until I get the real card. Once I have the stamp, can I plan to go home for Christmas or would I have to wait in the US for the plastic card to arrive?

the rules are changing, and starting October 26th, people no longer will get a stamp at the time of arrival. They will have to wait for the plastic card to arrive.
 
So I would arrive in the States sometimes in November and I won't get the stamp at that time. HOwever, can I go home and then come back considering that I still hold a valid H1b for the next 2 years.
