Hello everyone, here is the deal: Our family won the green card lottery back in 2000, so we arrived in US by 2001. At the time of arrival I was 15 so I was not eligible for getting a passport from country of origin. The result is that today I only have a green card and nothing else. I want to travel through Europe next year, so the question is what travel documents would I need? I am seriously confused and would really appreciate any help! Thanks!

if you are eligible for getting a passport from country of origin then get the passport from your country embassy or consulate in US

Hi, unfortunately I am not eligible nor am I willing to get the passport of Uzbekistan, country despised throughout the world. Are there any other solutions?

some countries let GC holders in without visas, you have to research which ones. The problem for you, however, will be with returning back to the States, since starting in January, I believe, everybody has to have a passport when travelling by air to the US.

So, you'd better get that UZ passport if you want to travel, or get a US passport soon - since you have been in the States for 5 years now. And with US passport you can travel to a lot of countries, visa free.

--------- why you are not eligible for the passport of Uzbekistan???

When I came here, I have never registered with Uzbekistan embassy. All my papers with them expired. Second of all and it's the worst part, if I ever decide to visit UZ there is a great chance that upon arrival I'll go straight to the army. It is mandatory there; moreover, I have missed the date to show up for some sort of army training as my friends told me.

Hi:

You may still be able to get a passport even if your documents are expired. But then again, I do not know the exact rules of UZ. Just make sure, even if you do get an UZ passport, that you never travel there. Even when you become a USC, do not travel there, unless you get a certificate of renunciation of citizenship or something similar ---- they may still consider you a citizen and can draft you for military training, imprison you etc.

If you are a GC holder, you can apply for a reentry permit from USCIS. It looks like a passport and many (but not all) countries are willing to put visas in it. I did this when I had a problem with my Russian passport and both Spain and Switzerland put their visas in my reentry permit (although Germany did not want to).

why would he do that if he can get a US passport and travel without any visas to a lot of countries? and have protection of his new country just in case something happens. Do you think that UZ embassy will do anything for him if he were stranded in another country with UZ passport and a reentry permit?
