Travel on H-1B while I485 Pending- Is AP needed?

I have applied for I-485 after a long wait last month but I still have a year left on the 6 year H-1B. Do I have to apply for the travel document if I need to travel out of the country?

If not, Can I come back using my H1B status? If I travel using H1B Status will USCIS assume that I have abandoned my I485 Application. I appreciate any responses as I might have to travel in couple of weeks for work.

Will USCIS assume I485 is abandoned if I come back on H1B Status

From what I've read, I think it is safe to come back on H1B Status but I talked to a USCIS Officer today and he said, USCIS automatically assumes I485 is abandoned because I came back using H1B. Is that true?

No, it's not true. I never used AP.
