hi all,
how long does it take to obtain a travel document after green card approval (based on asylum).
and how can i apply for it...
i want to make a visit to uk, any expereince of using travel document to uk?

thanks

3.5 months after fingerprints.

Remember: RTD doesnt make you VISA FREE EVEN IF YOY HAVE A GREEN CARD. If you are born in a country where you need a SCHENGEN VISA, just because you have rtd+gc it doesnt mean you wont need one! Visa requirement is based on your nationality.

Im from Brazil and we dont need visa to go to europe...I went to Norway, Italy, Greece and Germany using only my RTD.

Gandrud, you are mistaken, as there are exceptions: you don't need a visa to go to the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Croatia, Slovakia and Hungary, though I'm not sure about the last two anymore. You don't need a GC, and it doesn't matter which country you are a citizen of. Your RTD will suffice.

Actually cafe, it does matter! I went to the Norwegian embassy to get a letter and the consul told me that .

do you think i should be getting rtd or traveling in my country passport, which is valid.... is it a problem if i travel on it?
visa is not a problem, i think uk embassy would issue a visa without any problem, i dont mind applying for visa.

Since you were granted asylum, YOU SHOULD NO LONGER TRAVEL USING YOUR COP PASSPORT. When you travel using your COP it means YOU ARE UNDER PROTECTION OF YOUR COP, that's why they say you should use your RTD because YOU ARE AN AMERICAN ASYLEE AND FROM NOW ON YOU ARE UNDER PROTECTION OF UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Regarding traveling using only your RTD, THERE IS NO PROBLEM AT ALL. Remembering that is normal to go through SECONDARY INSPECTION when flying back to America "ALL RTD HOLDERS". They wanna make sure you live in the same place, where are you working, where did you go! So dont be nervous!!!

Gandrud, what do you mean it doesn't matter? It does. You are saying that visa-free travel in the Schengen area is dependent on your country of citizenship, and not the fact that you have an RTD/GC. I am saying that there are some countries that do not care about your country of citizenship as long as you have an RTD. The GC is not required. In the case of Croatia, the RP is also accepted, regardless of country of citizenship.

About traveling on your national passport, it is recommended that you avoid doing so, especially before you become a permanent resndent. At least, use an RTD to re-enter the US. If you decide to use your country's passport outside the US, it is risky, but you can get away with it. But, if you need a visa to go to the UK anyway, you might as well get that in your RTD.

Lastly, not all RTD holders go through secondary inspection. I NEVER did, and I know some people who were sent through secondary only sometimes.

So I guess, you are missing out...You had a RTD yeaaaaaaaaaaaaars ago and the new LAW ABOUT RTD HOLDERS SAYS that since 2006 all RTD holders MUST GO THROUGH SECONDARY INSPECITION TO UPDATE ANY CHANGE SUCH AS: "ADDRESS, NAMES, LAST NAMES,OCCUPATION, FINGERPRINTS" and so on...

First of all, I don't know why you're typing in caps.

Second, if you just look at my timeline, you'll see that I didn't have an RTD "years ago," since I only became a citizen in 2011, which, if I'm not mistaken, was after the 2006 law that you're clinging to. I've entered the US on an RTD after 2006, and never been sent to secondary inspection.

I 131

Hi assyle,

If you have already got a Green Card approval, you can apply for I-131. The purpose of I-131 is,

1. To apply for a reentry permit
2. To include parole into the U.S. for humanitarian reasons

A new edition of this form is expected soon. In the mean time, you may file using the 11/05/11.
