My green card says I am resident since Oct 6, 2004. I plan to apply n-400 around July 14, 2009.

I am going to my home country in June and would like to stay till September but of course I will come back for finger printing if required and then go back again.

I have nobody here to check my mail for me. Is there any other way to find out the status of my case (finger printing notification/date, interview notification/date etc).

If there is'nt then I might apply through a lawyer- any suggestions for good immigration lawyers in nyc.

You can call and speak with an IO who can confirm if you been scheduled for FP or IL. but you'll still need to bring FP or IL notice when you go for appointment.

Possibly consider updating your mailing address to a good friend or relative if you plan to be out of the country. You probably don't want to mess with mail forwarding with the risk that the documents bounce back to the sender.

Another alternative would be to purchase a PO box for 6 months or a year. They are pretty cheap. Provide USCIS with the PO box as your mailing address.

Paying an attorney would basically be an expensive means of what may ultimately represent a PO box. (if your case is straight forward).

why don't you postpone your application until after you return? Is there a big rush for you to apply right at the 90 day mark

I don't think USCIS will mail some immigration documents to a PO box. And even if they will, somebody still has to check it.

Having a PO box as your mailing address is permitted (I just received my receipt notice there) as long as you also have an address where you live at.

They will mail all of the typical correspondence for naturalization to PO Box, no issues. The part about checking it was that if they return for the FP and interview, they simply need to go to the box and pick up the mail (or have a friend or family member pick it up ahead of time).

Without somebody checking the mail, how will they know when a fingerprint notice has arrived and what the appointment date is? Calling USCIS is not reliable.

Does having a C/O address on your application hurt you or slows the progress of the case ?

Since i travel a lot for work and am out for weeks in a row - i have given my friends address as C/O. I received both the NOA and finger print notice on his address with my name on it.

I finished my finger print on may 20th 2009 (Nebraska DO) but still havent received anything after that. was wondering if the C/O puts a delay on anything.

Thanks...
