Transit citation before the oath ceremony!

Hello everyone,

Glad that I found these boards online, anyhow I had this minor incident happened to me days ago, I live in San Francisco and I happened to get my first ever citation based on an expired Muni transfer ticket (a $75 fine) just 20 days before my Oath ceremony, and my question is divided into two parts:

a) Do I need to answer yes on question #4 that is listed on the back of form N-445?
b) If I answer yes, would this incident postpone or complicate my oath until a further notice?

This falls into a bit of a grey area.
Who exactly issued you this transit citation? Was it a police officer?

I suggest that you leave the answer to Q4 blank for the moment. At the oath ceremony, during the check-in, you will get to talk to a USCIS officer; you can explain the situation then and ask them how to answer Q4 on N-445 given your circumstances. I don't think that a "yes" answer would result in delaying your oath. If you can get a proof of payment of the fine by the time of the oath, that'd be good.

Thanks much for the quick reply baikal... Well, I'm not totally sure if the inspector was actually categorized as a police officer or not, since his uniform was more like a parking meter officer more than a police officer to me, and honestly I didn't pay much attention to his batch since I was too busy explaining to him how unfair the citation was. As far as I know, he was considered a SF Muni Fare Inspector.

I was thinking the same think, I'll be leaving Q4 blank until the ceremony date, and have a copy of the citation and the receipt as a proof of payment and wish for the best.

Well, after coming back from my info pass appointment, and according to the info officer, he said that I need to disclose it with a paid receipt no matter what type of citation it is, otherwise if they found out, it might cause me a bigger problem eventually.

I honesty, don't wanna take any chances at this point. I believe the best thing to do, is to have question 4 unanswered until the Oath day, and just mention the issue to the officer once I go over there...
