Townhall Meeting with Lamar Smith (Dec 6th) – Austin, TX

Leahwang

If you go to immigration.com. Main page of this site and look at the top you will see the petition General I-485 backlog petition. Click on it and you can see the petition and you can view the signatures as well. You can print them all and take it with you. That should provide a motivation that it is not one single person talking about the backlogs but a whole lot of people.

I live in AUstin too. I could come there with my wife. So, do I need to carry anything along with me. Let me know guys.

Thanks

Thanks for attending this meeting. Lea is probably taking a print out of the petition to this meeting. Lea, can you please confirm. Easthorn and you can just take a letter with SRC numbers and dates and also voice to Lamar the problems caused by these delays.

Meeting with Mr. Lamar Smith

tr22,

I will print only the Backlog Petition Letter. Sorry I cannot print all the signatures. It is about 280 pages. I don't have that kind of resources. I will bring the Petition Letter and the URL for the 3000+ signatures to him.

Thanks.
Easthorn, Andhra485. Can any of you take the print out of the signatures. If not all pages atleast a few pages. Thanks.

Here is something more to help you folks out

Here is a letter that CSC folks have been using (file name group_meeting_request.doc). I have modified it for our meeting. I have copied the signatures list in the following files

The petition has gathered 3729 signatures as of 12/2/03.

Petition_I485_oneline.xls has only one line for comments and so the print out should come to 68 pages.

Petition_I485_comments.xls has the comments displayed in its entirety so if printed should come to 133 pages. I will have to post the excel spreadsheets in my next posts because I can only post one file at a post.

Tr22, Easthorn, Andhra485, leahwang how is this effort coming along.
Is anyone else going to make it to the meeting from Austin/San Antonio?
Please look at Ayansgp's message abt the townhall meeting in Atlanta.

question please

Which letter do I need to print that I can add our SRC numbers.
Also, Can you please give us more details regarding the location and the timing of this event.

Thanks

If at all possible I would urge you to take a printout of all the signatures with you when you hand over the petition to the Congressman. The sheef of papers is over an inch in thickness, and makes for some VERY poignant reading.

This is a part of our "shock and awe" campaign. Anyone who sees that huge pile of documents, cannot help but open a random page. And believe you, me, each and and every page has a story to melt your heart.

So you can't go wrong handing over the document to the Congressman, so I request someone to take the trouble to print it if at all possible.

In submitting the cover letter to the conressman, DON'T forget to put in names of the Liason volunteers. It will be best if they belong to the Congressman's district, because you will definitely hear it said, that "I can do more for you if you belong to my district."

Also, wanted to applaude the people who are stepping forward, TSC is definitely the worst service center by a long mile, and your efforts WILL make a difference.

Tr22, Easthorn, Andhra485, leahwang I Thank you for your efforts to see the congressman. Also wish you good luck. Post your update. Here is the cover letter I sent to the congressmen with the petition. I didn't hand him anything at the town hall meeting as they already considering the faxed petition. They asked me about my SRC later.

Guys, Lamar Smith is in the DHS committee. Ask him:

1) If he knows TSC plans to reduce backlog, when/how?

2) TSC has been further behind other centers, why nothing is being done about it?

Town Hall Meeting with Lamar Smith

I and another guy (and his wife) from this forum attended the meeting. The main topic of dicussion were health care and job loss (H1B and IT jobs out sourcing were blamed). Emotion ran very high. I dugged my head low throughout the meeting...

After the meeting, I approached Simth's secretary who is in-charge of immigration affair. I wanted to hand over the i485's backlog petition letter. She refused to accept and said they are already aware of the backlog problem at TSC. The only thing we can do is to wait for your turn. The only time they will get involved is when there is life-or-death or US's security related situations.

I mentioned about possible layoffs for H1B holders at this bad economy time. She said by law you should go home if that occurs. She said that having a job is the basis for an employment-based GC to begin with.

So much so for the townhall meeting...

Lea

Thanks to all who attended the meeting. Sorry, to hear that it didn't go in our favour.

Well, what else can you expect from TX? That's probably another reason for TSC's discrimination.

Anyways, we need to keep on contacting congressmen and try to push our issues/petition. Lets not worry about the results at this point, just do what we can to make ourselves heard.
