So does this mean that all democrats voted against the bill?

if so, maybe I shouldn't call anymore democrat sens or congs b4 it will be voted on. Pls correct me if i am wrong. Since reps control both the houses, as long as we garner their support, we should be fine.

Hey Shakti Kapoor,

You seem to be doing a great job following this thing.

Can you maybe, point out a link where we can read more on today's happennings? Or did u probably just hear it live on CSPAN? Any details would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Nozer

We should start new initiative to contact all senators/congress persons by phone, email, or fax and request them to support the immigration reform suggested in budget session.

Every one should try to contact atleast senators and congress persons of their areas.

lets cross the fingers and pray God!!!

I was looking at a link I have that watches for new articles on Employment Based Immigration and found this article that is dated this morning...

http://www.swnebr.net/newspaper/cgi-bin/articles/articlearchiver.pl?157916

Seems there is alot of legislation being considered. The one peice of info that I have not heard before is this....

In addition, high-tech workers who have worked in the U.S. for three years may be allowed to adjust to permanent resident status without regard to the annual cap of 140,000.

Has anyone else heard this 3 year requirment before? It probably does not affect many people, but it is an important point to note.

I'm sure there are many people who are here for more than 3 years.
this is a good news.

Sorry to say, keep on dreaming this bill will be considered. Another amnesty bill and increase in immigration is the oppositve of what 85% of American people are demanding.

the policy of if you can't beat them...confuse them!
It seems like this is being used by the Republican Senate leadership to muddy the waters so much that everything gets put back on the back burner. Shusterman http://www.shusterman.com reports on his ticker news that basically this third bill may bring the curtain down on Immigration Reform legislation in this Congress!
The only hope is the Budget Reconciliation measure!

This is a different bill by Hagel

BoxofChocs,

The one you are referring to is a different bill by Sen Hagel of Nebraska. He has one along with McCaine and Cornyn. It is very likely will see all this merged into one ( Frist is trying to get all these guys to get together and get a compromise).

I read this document
http://budget.senate.gov/republican/pressarchive/2005-10-6RECSummary.pdf[/url]. it talks only abt recapturing EB visa and not mentioning anything abt other 2 points about eliminating dependents and filing 485 before visa number availability . Or is this just a summary ?

The proposals seem to have been passed in-toto to be considered by the full Senate. Here is the link to the statement from Sen. $900,000 Powerball-winner Gregg http://budget.senate.gov/republican/pressarchive/2005-10-26MarkUpOpening.pdf.
Here is the summary of the final Budget Reconciliation proposals http://budget.senate.gov/republican/pressarchive/2005-10-26RECSummary.pdf. You need to read the very last proposals on page 5 of this PDF document.
Moving forward, it seems!

Please see this

This is what it says in the PDF (http://budget.senate.gov/republican/pressarchive/2005-10-26RECSummary.pdf)

It does not say anything about not counting spouses/children? It says only about the 90K recapture and the 30K H1. Nothing about allowing to file 485 for retrogressed people??

Anybody, any information about what is going on?

PDF is a summary

PDF looks to be a summary (even the title says so)
My guess is that bit about spouse visas not being counted is very much a detail of the bill and will not be mentioned in the summary as it probably doesn't impact the $$ directly.
