its looks 50-50 at the moment

I have no idea what the consequences of this meeting are but from what im seeing it looks so far as 50% for and 50% against this bill.
somebody tell me what kind of vote percentage is required for it to be passed thru.

Must have been this morning...

I was looking at a link I have that watches for new articles on Employment Based Immigration and found this article that is dated this morning...

http://www.swnebr.net/newspaper/cgi-bin/articles/articlearchiver.pl?157916

Seems there is alot of legislation being considered. The one peice of info that I have not heard before is this....

In addition, high-tech workers who have worked in the U.S. for three years may be allowed to adjust to permanent resident status without regard to the annual cap of 140,000.

Has anyone else heard this 3 year requirment before? It probably does not affect many people, but it is an important point to note.

The committee is made of 12 republicans and 10 democrats...so we know it will get passed....

They are not talking about immigration because they have better things to talk about...medicare....agriculture etc etc....+ budget deficiet + debt

Dont worry about what they are talking about....just wait for the vote..

3.45 it is

Shakti - you seem to have a good handle on this. Where does it go from here now that it has gone thru?

The vote was 12 -10 for it.
It was a very close call. Although, none of them actually debated on the immigration reforms as such, the bill came under a lot of scrutiny because of the other tax cuts that it is proposing.
But what happened to those that said "vote by proxy". were they included in the final count of 12 YES es and 10 NO s??.Does anyone know??.That can easily determine the outcome of they have not been counted yet.

So far so good...

When is the final vote at the House of Reps? After that , it is the final stop at Bush's desk to becoma a law, no?

The final vote counted the votes given by proxy also...So its officially passed by the Budget committee....Now it will go to senate for a voting...In senate they might introduce certain amendments to the bill but since the immigration proposal was passed 12-2 in the subcommittee there is less chance that any language in the immigration section could get amended.

Since the republicans control the senate, it will get passed in senate also.

The house has a bill which doesn't talk anything about immigration. Since the house is considering to increase the spending cut by 15 million more ( upto 50 billion), it might happen that they will also approve the immigration proposal in the final solution since any application applied against the recaptured visa would fetch them 500 $. Till now we dont have any dates when the house and senate would vote on it.

But given the way things are going.....things looks pretty positive....we just need to pray and hope that nothing happens like "WHAT HAPPENED EARLIER THIS YEAR". Earlier this year they had prepared an amendment to a bill to recapture the visa but the final numbers were cut to 50000 for nurses. We just need to pray that good senses prevail and we come out of this mess quickly.

HI everyone,

Can someone point to a link on CSPAN or wherever that actually gives a transcript regarding this Bill Conversation and the 12-10 or whatever?

I am really confused as to what is going on and would love to read some more actual details.

Thanks,

Nozer
