What is a backdate?

Well, since the INS has been taking very long time to process I-485 applications, they made a decision that asylees should wait four years rather than 5 years to get their citizenship. In other words they backdated our eligibility one year.
It did not know that it has been always like that. I thought that they recently changed it.Originally posted by Sessanga Charlesa
I do not see any difference,it has always been 4 yrs for asylees to be eligible to file for citizenship.may be you mean`t 3 yrs.could you clarify that pl`s.
The 5th year is credited towards the one year period after you are granted asylum.

always been like that. original purpose was to allow us to become citizens five years after asylum grant like other immigrants.
