To abandon permanent residency

Don't hate me for my weird question. But I am very interested in what would happen if I (or just somebody else) abandon permanent residency in the U.S. ?

Would it be possible to apply and get ordinary non-immigrant visa later?
Say, the person to apply has certain ties to his/her home country (native country, not the US :) )

Thank you for your response!

you should formally give up your GC at the consulate or US embassy abroad. In the first several years (theoretically) you should be able to get a non-immigrant visa easily.

That's similar to my case.

Easier than those who never had any permanent resident status?

Anybody has similar experience (with applying for nonimmigrant visa after you were immigrants)?
