Hi ,
i have been working in the US under TN for 3 years now through a consultancy at a client location as a Engineer. meanwhile i had done some certification in IT . and got a full time offer from the client directly . My concern is that If i will qualify for a new TN if i get a job offer in IT dept as a principal prog analyst. since I have a mechanical engineering degree.

Your certs do not qualify you for a TN in, say, CSA category.

You need to get an H1 if you want to have a broader spectrum of eligible work.

Hi nelsona,
thanks for the quick reply. but is it advisable to go to H1b from TN as I frequently travel back to Canada to meet my family .

What difference does that make? TN and H1 have no difference in terms of travel restriction -- which is there are no travel restrisctions on either.

The one drawback of H1 is that you must be an employee of a company -- but it certainly be as an employee of a consultant company.
