TN visa at US mex border, changing jobs

I am Canadian Citizen RN on TN. Have been traveling to laredo border for TN for several years to get new or renew my TN. Same is the case with my spouses' TN. I have an offer from new employer and hence went for renew to same border. My recent TN is valid up until 2025. I was planning to show all documents and get a new I94, which will help me join my new employer. The officer this time said they do not do any canadian TN at mexican border. They asked me to go the a canadian border OR file with uscis. This was the biggest surprise - Officer said that my TN is already valid until 2025, so if you employer wants, you should be good to start. I explained him that we have been renewing for job change from the same border for years and I think I will need new I94. He said, I already have a valid one, so he cannot issue new based on his discussions with his superior.. My questions are: 1. Is there a recent rule change on I 94 employer change, is it ok to follow the officers advice ? 2. If I plan to fly to Canadian airport or border, do I need to get an appointment in advance? Please help

There has been no change. you ask for a supervisor directly at that point. The fact that he did not know that your I-94 wasn't good for just any employer, should have red-flagged him as unknowledgeable.

Thanks. I did and he said these instructions are per his supervisors instructions. Anyways, it seems I will need to go to Canadian border. We were traveling to tx for an event, so choose to go laredo and get it done. Now, since we are back in GA, I think nearest border will be closer to detroit. Is windsor border ok for TN visa for RN? Do I need to take appointment in advance?

Too bad they screwed you. btw, Having the guy say whet his supervisor told him is NOT the same as talking to the supervisor. He bullshoied you.

You really going to drive to Canada? Anyways, phone the border and ask.

Thanks Nelsona, I'm planning to fly. I have less experience visiting Canada US border (with us being in TX earlier, we were going to laredo), so any suggestions on which border to avoid (both in terms of heavy traffic and long wait to get it done), it would be much appreciated!!! Or on a positive, instead of which border to avoid, which one is good one to go will help? This was the final question. Thank you in advance !!!

Ell, your flying, so just get it at the airport when you leave canada. No need to drive anywhere.

I don't believe in choosing ports. Go where it is most convenient for you.

Sorry to hear your experience. Clearly a mistake by the officer.

Canadians are allowed to apply for TNs at any POE, entering from any country. I have obtained TNs entering from Canada, Mexico, Barbados, and Japan.
