TN to GC as a Mexican citizen

Hello everyone.

I'd like to ask if it's actually possible to obtain a green card as a Mexican citizen under TN status.

If you could help me with this, please read on.

I have been working for about 3 years in Puerto Rico under 3 TN visas, which I had to renew every year (back in Mexico) while in the company. And I now have a permanent U.S. based position in Boston for which I also got a new TN visa under the new company; however this time I look forward to obtaining a GC.

So these are my questions:

1) How much time do I have to wait before asking my employer to sponsor my GC application? Can I travel outside of the U.S. if I apply?

2) I've been reading that most people first need to switch to an H1-B visa but I've also read about people from Canada that got their GC while on TN status.

I'm really confused because if I add to this the fact that I am a Mexican citizen, I don't know if that may add more legal burden to the whole process.

Please let me know if there's anything else I could do or specify in the meantime.

Thank you for your time and help.

If youi have read the TN to GC thread, you can see that it really doesn't make a difference if you are Cdn or not. There is nthe same small time period where one cannot travel (after filing I-485) but other than sometimes having to get a TN visa (which is still permitted in this process). Btw, you do know that Mexicans are now allowed to file for TN new or renewal from within US with I-129.
