Hi All,

Can a Scientific technician apply for a visa with 4 year degree. Is it necessary that a Professional has to support him.

thanx

If your position is Sci Tech, then it MUST be in support of a professional.

If you have a bachelor's you may be able to go for TN in another category.

While on the one hand, it would be nice if you were supporting a professional that was a direct employee, I am a scientific technician that supports outside consulting engineers. In my line of work, the engineer puts out a set of plans and specifications, and I then take all of that and figure out all of the actual nuts and bolts that are required.

I have an acquaintance who did a scientific technician as an optometrist, so yes you can do it with a four year degree. Do you have more info about what you are doing?

Thanx,

My situation is that I got an offer from a big construction company as a quality control technician. I am presently on TN as a civil engineer. Now I do not understand what category would fit me as QC Tech. This company will not write my designation as a Civil Engineer. and if I am not wrong. QC technician will not be accepted in engineer category.

pl. advise.

Okay,

I'm in a related business in construction so I get where you are coming from. If it's one of the majors (Kiewit, PCL etc.) or an infrastructure type contractor, then they have degreed engineers all over the place. So in one sense you've got the angle covered with respect to an engineer being on staff. You need to have them craft the letter so it shows everything that you will be doing and how your degree relates to what you are doing. It would also be nice if you could show the correlation between the work you do and how it relates to the engineer (ie: prepare reports for review by consulting engineer or city engineer). I assume you will do things like inspect the pour, submit cross section sample etc.

I really don't think you'll have a problem. If they won't cooperate then move on. There are tons of large GC's in the US that will dwarf anything you've seen up there. And don't wory, because they'll hire you as a CE.

Thank you very much. If you have a draft letter and would like to send I will fwd my e-mail. I was of the impression that the engineer under whom I will work should also be on TN status from canada.

Am I right or wrong.

Wrong. I don't think it matters if they are on a TN, H1B, GC or if they are a USC as long as you are working "in support" of them and you can prove their degree by providing the USCIS with a copy of the degree.

Web is correct. In fact, if your TN was based on working for another TN engineer, the border might view this as 'too temporary' in nature...

Typically, the TN sci tech works for a permanent employee of the company.
