TN Renewal before expiration

Dear forum members,

My TN will be expiring at the end of January 2022, however I have read that I can get the TN renewed within 6 months of expiration. I would like to get it renewed at a POE as soon as possible. I wanted to check and see if there will be any issues as my existing TN will still be valid for around 2 months plus.

It would be greate if someone can share any experience in regards to this.

Thank you.

Renewal (or more correctly in your case, extension), can only be done by mailing I-129, starting 6 months before expiry. At the border, your TN will be granted, but will begin on that date, not the date your old one expires. The border typically does not accept "renewals" much more than a few weeks before expiry.
So, you can mail-in now, or go to the border at Christmastime.

Thanks for the reply.

The reason I wanted to do that early was that I need to sponsor TD Visa for my "non-canadian" spouse. Nowadays, it is taking longer to secure an appointment at the embassy, due to which I was thinking of going to the border earlier and get it done.

Not sure if the border officer will accept this a valid reason?
