No, I am not in gov't regulated industry. I work in semiconductors, private sector. Right now it is all speculations until I get my FOIA but most people say the extended background check is for people born in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and former USSR countries, give or take some other countries like Nepal (Maoist gov't). Unfortunately I was born in one of those countries even though I was raised in Canada. Another theory is my length of stay and different statuses I have held over the years adds to the processing time. I was in the US in the 90s on F1 and H1-B. And since 2004, TN, H1-B and TN again.
