TN layoff can file Unemploment in canada

I got layoff from my job in USA, I was working on TN visa. Can i file unemployment in canada. I worked in usa 1 and half year. i also worked in canada 6 years before my TN then i resigned and came to USA. I did not file tax in canada as i am working in USA>

what if you filed as a non-resident to canada by putting an exit date on your canadian tax return?

Doesn't matter.

Of course, to get EI in canada, you will be returning to canada, and re-establishing Cdn residency.

But the fact that you were non-resident while working in US is expected, and will not harm your EI application, so long as you return to Canada to collect.
