TN I-94 with a new passport

Hi all,

Here is my situation. I have TN status through August 2012. My Canadian passport recently expired and I got a new one. I still have my I-94 but Passport Canada says it will not return my old passport.

I'm planning to visit Canada next month for a few days. When I come back to the US, will I have a problem with my TN status given that I will be presenting a new passport and the I-94 from the old passport.

Is it likely I will need to get a new TN?

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you.

Andrew

The I-94 was held with a staple in your old passport. Just re-staple in your new passport.

For others, remember to tick the "return my passport" box on your application, if you want it back.

Thanks for the reassurance.

By the way, I did tick the return my passport box. They said they wouldn't return it because the passport was deemed "damaged". Never had a problem using at the border.

No I don't think they damaged it. I think a bureaucrat was nitpicking and found some 'damage'. As I said, it was never too damaged to enter the country, but it was apparently too damaged for the simplified renewal application. I had to submit a new renewal application and they wouldn't send back the old passport, even though it was already expired.

Anyway, wah wah wah. I just hope stapling my I-94 into the new passport will be sufficient.

A little I-94 card with a stamp on it just seems so... unofficial, doesn't it?

It will be.

CBP/DHS has the other half of that I-94, and it is in their system, so you don't get any more official than that.
