TN expires/ SIN expires?

When I received my SIN card the expiry date was Jan 17/09, same as my TN

I have mailed (in Oct) an I-129 (no confirmation or "in process" letter received yet, only a receipt of payment)

I faxed that to HR and they said that's enough (they are pretty useless tho) , but what about my SIN card? Will that cause problems if that is expired?

Thank you for any help!

Presuming you mean SSN card (SIN card is for Canada), your SSN has no expiry date.

I would be very surprised if the actual card had an expiry date written on it -- in fact I categorically say that your card does NOT have an expiry date on it. Are you sure your are talking about your Social Security Card?

... and on the matter of proving that you have submitted I-129, the receipt would have been sent to either your HR or their lawyer (if they used one).

You absolutely need a copy of the receipt -- its a form I-797 -- to prove that you have a pending I-129 in the works, should you ever be stopped by police, etc, or if you would cross the border and needed to come back in on a new TN, so you need to be hounding them for this receipt.

SSN! Right! Thanks nelsona. Sorry, sometimes I get the Canadian slip ups :)

I'm pretty sure he said it will expire in one year (when I picked it up), but if no one has had this happen then I won't worry too much.

I have "I-797C" I hope that is enough...but this phrase in the letter..... "This notice does not grant any immigration status or benefit. It is not even evidence that this case is still pending. It only shows that the application or petitions was filed on the date shown."

it worries me.....

That is sufficient.

Why did you previously say "no confirmation or "in process" letter received yet, only a receipt of payment"

The I-797C is not a receipt of payment, it is a receipt of form submission and is definite proof that I-129 was submitted in a timely fashion.

And first you said the card has an expiry date, and now you say someone (who?) told you it (what?) expires in one year.

I little more consistency and accuracy in your posts will yield much better esponses.

Okay, I thought it was just a receipt because the letter sais "Notice Type: Receipt Notice"

The worker who gave me the SSN card at the SSN office said it was for 1 year. I would phone to ask, but I'm scared to draw attention to myself if I don't have to.

If nobody here had to renew SSN cards along the TN->GC road then I should be okay.
