TN and Canadian Residency

I am a Canadian Citizen working in the US under NAFTA. I have been here for over a year and have recently renewed for 3 years. My question is:

Am I still considered a resident of Canada?

e.g.-- If i want to put money into an RSP or a new tax free savings account, but the requirement is I must be a resident of Canada?

Any thoughts???

Thanks

This is not a tax forum, and you should post at forums.serbinski.com

But your tax status is based on your residential ties in canada. Do you have a house and spouse in canada which you visit regularly? If not, you are not a tax resident, and should have filed a departure return, based on the day you left, and your US wages should not be reported in canada

There is no restriction on non-residents contributing to an RRSP. IF you have no taxable income however, there is little point.

The TFSA does have residency requirement. Moreover, since TFSA remains taxable in US, there is little point in US residents contributing, even if they could.

No. It is not. The TFSA is not extended any protection under US tax law or the treaty.
