If everything is in order at the consular interview and your application is approved what happens next? Is the I551 stamp issued on the day of the interview? Can you travel to the US immediately? I'm unsure about the timeline and the process following the consular interview...thank you in advance for your help!
 
at the consulate you will receive your passport with an immigrant visa, which will be good for 6 months. When you come to the US with that visa, you will become a US resident. You should get an annotation in your passport (I-551) and the plastic card will arrive later to the address you specified in your applications.
 
I will like to know how long it will take to get a permit to comeback to Nigeria upon entry. Becos i am in a fairly paid employment now and i will like to travel with my wife but intend to come back to my work after 3-4 weeks. Will i get the permit to come and go finally by 1st week in January 2007 after i must have spent 7 months outside US, then i wolud have resigned my appointment.
