The reasons why your I140/I485 is pending for current filers

For current filers in March/April/May 2003, most of us have done Finger Printing, but our I140/I485 is still pending. USCIS may approve our I140/I485 only after we have done Finger Printing and FBI has done Name Check. I sent e-mail to FBI and confirmed my Name Check is still pending, even though USCIS sent Name Check request in April 2003 !!! I paste the e-mail in the following.

Please sent FAX to FBI and request to expediate Name Check. FBI should pay attention if they received thousands requests to expediate Name Check !!! The Fax number is: 202-324-3367. Again, please send FAX to FBI this week !!!

December 2002 to early 2003, the USCIS submitted an additional 2.7 million
name checks for processing to the FBI. Although 99.5% of these cases have
been completed, our efforts to wrap up the remaining requests continue.
This has delayed processing of other requests.

What exact message/status does it display on USCIS website for your 485 case?
In my case it displays following status

On March 17, 2004, the results of your fingerprint review for your I485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status were received, and processing has resumed on your case. We will mail you a notice if further action is needed, or when a decision is made.
*****************************

Does it mean that name check is done? Please explain.

Name Check and Record Check are different

Name Check and Record Check are different. Record check is done immediately from FBI after we finish Finger Printing in USCIS, and is to check we have crime in USA. Name Check is to do check whether our name is samilar with terrorist.

Well i got following response from David Hardy and he mentions record check and not name check in there. So shud i enquire about name check separately?

kailashr is confused between "record check" and "Name Check"

Name Check and Record Check are different. Record check is to check whether we have crime in USA, and is done immediately from FBI after we finish Finger Printing in USCIS. Name Check is to do check whether our name is samilar with terrorist.

USCIS has to hold our I-140/I-485 for concurrent files until USCIS has received both Record Check result and Name Check result from FBI.

USCIS doesn't post "Name Check" result in web site

If you received the following message. It only means you have done Finger Printing and USCIS has recived your Record Check from FBI. It doesn't mean FBI has done your Name Check. USCIS doesn't post "Name Check" result in web site.

Well my finger printing was done on 02/05/2004 and USCIS received it on 02/11/2004 as per the online status on my 485. On the contrary David Hardy's email indicates that record check was done on 23rd October 2003, shortly after my application was filed on 02 Oct 2003. So what do u make out of that...

What is "Alias Number" ? Is it a SRC # for I485?

Do we need to write our email address? Where they will send their reply?

But how did you know that whether the name check is pending or not if it is not displayed on uscis webpage?

The way to check with FBI about name check is by e-mail or fax.
The e-mail address is: FBINNCP@ic.fbi.gov
FAX number is: 202-324-3367

It takes about 3 days to get response from FBI about "name check" status
