Tax Transcripts Help

I am trying to get IRS transcript for showing evidence of joint married life. I filed jointly along with my husband.

I am able to get my 2004 & 2005 transcripts (but those were filed being single).
2006 was the only year of joint filing.

For the 2006 transcripts, IRS says that it doesn't have any records available. I know i filed the taxes and I know my payment check has been cashed around April end.

Any suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks,
Sakshi.

I'm just speculating that maybe the IRS hasn't gotten around to enter all your 2006 info into their system yet?

Do you have your own copy of your 2006 return along with all schedules, W-2, 1099s, etc? Those should substitute as proof. Did you paper file? E-file? Paid preparer?

This is strange because I was able to get the transcript of our 2006 tax return from the IRS. My husband requested it over the phone. Did you try that route?

it took 4 months to get my transcripts... from 2002, 2003... I got them AFTER the AOS interview.

Yes I tried on phone 3 times so far. They see both me and my husband as single filers in the system. They don't see 2006 information. I filed around April 10th, checks cashed April 17th. When did you file yours?

Yes I have a soft copy of everything I filed. I have W2 + 1099 + Bank Interest Statements along with filled 1040. I did a paper file myself.

If i am not able to get the transcript then I will be sending whatever I have. I just think joint tax filing is a good evidence of a bonafide marriage.

If you have a copy of your paper return as filed, and all your statements, that should be good enough. Since you said soft copy, do you have a photocopy of your signed and dated return also? I'm not sure if it matters whether or not it has the original signature and date on it. We sent photocopies of the signed and dated Form 1040 and all schedules, W-2s, and 1099s that go with it.

Send copies of the 2006 1040, along with copies of the W2, and 1099 should be enough. I did not get any transcripts just sent copies of the last three tax returns along with the copies of the corresponding W2s and 1099s.

Sashi,

I had a similar problem. My wife's name appeared first in the tax return, therefore I used her name and SSN to find the tax return. If you haven't tried yet, use your spouse's name and SSN to find the return. _ V.

i believe you can get 2006 transcripts (the one you filed in 2007) only after Dec 31st 2007. That was written on the IRS website if I recall correctly.

I had no problems getting my transcript for 2006 just weeks after I had filed the returns as well as tax returns for the 3 previous years. I had them with me just in case but the IO never asked for them at my interview.

I tried a similar request for transcripts. If you filed jointly, I suspect that the record is only contained under the first person's file. Like others have said, use your husband's SSN to request the appropriate transcript.

Ok folks, I was on call with IRS today and to my surprize they said the 2006 transcript is available. I asked them to fax it to make it faster. I got the fax but its one of the worst quality fax. Everything is legible but it is a poor quality fax.

Does anyone know if USCIS may have a problem with faxed transcripts?

Another question - I-184 instructions asks to submit "Proof of current employment or self employment". I am self employed as a consultant. What kind of proof can i get? What should I use??

I know of some people who have used fax transcripts before.

Do you have a contract with the business you consult? do you have a business license? is your business registered? something in that would help.

Anything other than transcripts

DO I need to send anything other than the IRS Transcripts? I have received a copy in the mail and it looks good. Do I need to send in my W2/1099 or anything else. I am sending my pay stubs.

Finally filing on July 26th evening. To avoid the huge fee increase.

If you have the IRS transcripts you do not need the W2s or 1099s. (They are included in the transcript).

But if you have them, it would not hurt to send them.

Can you get a letter from your employer? (an employment letter) stating your charge, wages, salary, etc.?

I am a contractor so don't have any employer letter. But my husband has Employer Letter and Pay Stubs. This is along with our Joint 2006 tax transcript. I hope we will be fine.
