My 17 yr old son who is applying to enroll in a summer school in the US this coming June has been asked Visa type. I could not tell him whether F1 or GC, which of course we do not have it yet. Does anyone know? We expect to be interviewed this April.

well, he could say permanent resident. Hopefully, u guys will have the card by april.

Thank you JohnKent for your prompt reply.

Now that you mentioned it, claiming Permanent Residence is not as serious as falsely claiming citizenship, coz I read somewhere that claiming the latter would cause our GC to be revoked.

So my son will mention PR, with a note mentioning DV in process.

Thanks again.

Ooh yes, there's no law against claiming US perm resident.
Most colleges have no idea as to what DV lottery is. Ur son can just apply as a foreign student so that he would know for sure what he needs to have to go to college in America as technically, he is a foreign student. He can change from int'l to permanent resident student when you guys have the dv visa for sure.
anyway, it really dosen't make any difference what he puts on the form as long as you guys have that visa by May or whenever ur number becomes current.

the college needs to know whether to issue an I-20 form for your son (for F-1 visa). If you tell them he doesn't need it, they won't issue it. It won't hurt to get an I-20 just in case. Of course, getting a non-immigrant visa will be tough because of your clear immigrant intent.
