Successful H-1B Stamping in Vancover, BC

Well just to let you guys know that some of you might want to consider the Vancouver consulate (if it is convenient for you to travel).

I live in Seattle and last Friday we went to Vancouver and got our stamps without delays.

I am from Mexico but I saw people from many countries getting H1B or F1 visas.

If you plan to drive from Seattle to Vancouver please allow yourself enough time to cross the border. At the consulate we went to the second floor to pay the $100 fees and then we were given a number. About half an hour later our number cas called and we went to the 20th floor were we waited to talk to the officers.
Then our name was called by a more "senior" officer that only asked for an employment letter (make sure it's current and shows your salary) and approval notice then she quickly went through all the answers to the forms DS-156 and 157 and she gave us a little receipt with the amount we would pay for the reciprocity fee. Finally she said we would be called by another officer shortly.

A few minutes later a junior officer called us and asked just a few questions, how long have you been in the US, where do you work, what do you do (please make sure you can explain this concisely in layman terms)... this is kinda important because I saw a few people having problems explaining what the do or it did not quite match what the employment letter said however I don't think any of them were denied the visa. And that's it, you're told to go and pay the reciprocity fee (you can use credit card here but not for the $100 application fee) and return the receipt to the officer. Your passports with visas are picked up at 3pm on the same day.

This is my second time in Vancouver and it was pretty laid back. I saw peoples renewing their visas that did not have paystubs or employment letters or even a guy that could barely speak english (the officer asked a staffer to traslate) and they still got the visas.

At the border, we waited a looong time waiting in line (about 2 hours on Saturday afternoon) and we got thru without glitches.

So at the end I am glad I decided to go to Vancouver instead of St. Louis but of course maybe this venue is not as convenient for many people as it was for me. Just another option for you to consider.

Did u see any guy from special registration country who got visa stamped same day.

i would appreciate ur reply

I met two guys from Pakistan but one of them was a Canadian Landed Resident so I am not sure if it makes a difference or not for processing the applications.

Hmmalik,

For people from SR country, they normally do a security check. It takes anywhere between 3 weeks to 3 months. If you are planning to apply for H1B in Canada then prepare yourself to stay outside USA for a while. I have not seen anybody from SR country getting visa in the same day. If you know abybody, the please post a reply in this thread.

Stamping in vancouver

Did you see any Indians? Also, do you know if the stamping doesnt take placem then can we enter USA? My I-94 has expired in Nov 2002 but 797 is valid till April 2005. Can we enter US back on that ?

Please let me know

ami23,

if you apply for visa, then you can not enter back using 30 days revalidation rule. I am not sure whether you can enter back using AP. If you are denied of a visa, then you can not enter back to USA rather you have to go back to your own home country to apply from visa from there.

Do you guys know if any one of these consulates in Canada and Mexico is doing Visa Revalidaton for people from SR Country?
Not a Landed immigrant of Canada?

Thanks
Khush

I have seen many post by many people who got stamped succesfully without being a permanent resident or a citizen. If you are from a SR country and not a landed immigrant, then you will have hard time getting it. Otherwise people from Non-SR country are getting it in the same day.

muntasir,
i m landed immigrant . is there any chance same day revalidation
or i will have to wait there 3 months.can u tell me the website to take appointment.

thanx

H1 stamping of SR citizen

Hi
I would be a landed immigrant in Canada in November and am planning to get my H1 stamped from Vancouver. This would be my first H1 stamping. I belong to a SR country. I heard that if you are first time landed immigrant they want you to stay for 6 months or so before they give you the visa. Is this true?
What documents would I be needing for the visa stamping? I have a general list but was wondering if someone can give me a run down. I would appreciate it.
I was thinking of taking one month leave and getting this done.

What are the general questions that are being asked in the interview?

Any other information I can get from any of you would be highly appreciated. Mr. Mailk and I are in kind of a same situation so if you can give me tell em what documents you ahve prepared so far, that would help.

Thanks in advance....

I am from Spaecial regis country & was first time landed immigrant. I was landed on 1st June & appear for interview on 2nd June, 2003.
Other then all required docs you must have reference letter from your employer get a format from the web/forum. Also complete set of pettion(I-129) your employer filed for your H1-B with INS.
Have your recent paystubbs plus proof of resident like utility bill etc also.

Hello,
Wanted to let you know that I successfully got my H1B stamping at vancouver without any problem. THis was from F1-> H1. The interview just lasted 2 minutes and they didn't check any of documents. All they saw was my Employment letter. But I had all my papers as discussed in this forum.
The person taking the interview was very cordial and most of the people got the visa on that day.

Vancouver f1 - H1 stamping

hi

I have an appointment on October 31st 2003 at 9 am (Friday) for F1 - H1 stamping. I am going to seattle on thursday and I am planning to drive to vancouver on friday early morning(4 am)

How much time will it take for the drive and at the border crossing? is 5 hours enough for all this?

Can we pay 100$ as cash for the fee or do we have to take the bank draft for that.

And also how much money do we have pay after the visa is approved?

Did they ask you any Questions at the Interview??

Thanks in advance
Pran

Pran,
I think you shouln't have any problems getting there. The drive from SEA-vancouver is roughy about 2.5 hrs. And for me atleast it didn't take so much time at the canadian border ...may be i would say it took 30-45 minutes.
I know lot of people staying in seattle start in the early mornings. So it is not a problem.
Regarding the interview the consulate officer didn't ask me even a single question. She looked at my papers and told me to pay the 75$ fee.
I feel if you have filled in u r 156 & 157 forms properly you shudn'thave any problems. List out all your skools in form 157 including your high skool.
Regarding the fees- Initially as soon as you enter the bldg they take the 100$ fee. They accept cash only for this. And after that you are asked to go 20th floor where they do a security check & take your appointment letter, I797,156,157 forms, employment letter. And you are asked to wait in the line. A consulate officer calls your name & takes the interview and if they are satisfied wil ask you to pay 75$ which can paid thro credit card/cash.
Be sure to fill out all the infromation in the forms.
Hope that helps
