Submitting I - 94

Hi guys,
Here is my situation:

H1 stamp on PP expired in May 04 and so did the I-94 (the white one). Have approval notice for the next 3 years which has a I-94 with the same # as old, but expiring three years from now.

I am leaving for India next week. I will be going on Airline1 from Airport1 to Airport2 (both airport1 and airport2 -domestic).
At Airport 2, I will take the connecting international flight on Airline2. My qn is

1) Where should I give my I - 94?

2) Should I just give the white I -94 or should I tear off the portion from the H1 approval notice and give that too?

---- you are OK if you have got new I-94 attached with approval notice

----- you must give Both white+new that is attached with H1 approval notice tear off the new I-94 and at airline counter ask for pin or staple and staple both the I-94and give it to them( make the COPY of each I-94 front and back and keep it in your immigration file at home for future refrence)

i dont know where u shud submit ur I-94 but my best guess wud be at the international counter...so with Airline2.

btw, what is ur airline2? is it one of the airlines where u have a stopover in a western European country? then u may need a transit visa as ur US visa stamp has expired. i am assuming u dont have AP and are plaaning to get ur H1 renewal done while out of the US?
 
There are 2 scenarios to this:

If you are flying code-shared airlines so that you will get all your BPs at Denver. Then the agent at the checkin counter there should staple all the I-94s to your 1st 'international' boarding pass. Normally they will just take the "white card" attached to the PP. You might want to remind them to staple all your further (USCIS issued) I-94. So when you board the aircraft for your 1'st 'international' flight, the I-94 will go along with that BP at the gate.

If you are not flying code-shared airlines, where say you fly to LAX and and re-checkin into your intenational flights, you will have to do the above mentioned proc. at the checkin counter at LAX.
 
I am not flying code shared airlines. Its two different airlines. But the travel agent told me and this is what made it very confusing to me:

I will get my baggage checked in all the way to India. But, i will get Bp only until I reach Airport 2. So, at airport 2, I need to go the airline counter and get BPs for all the way from airport 2 to India. He specifically said that i dont need to go thro security check in again and further my booked luggage is booked all the way to the final destn. How come my luggage will be booked but i wont get BP's is what confused me. So, will it be ok if I turn in at the airline counter at airport 2?

Also, can i tear the I-94 from h1-b myself or should I wait to do it in front of the airline staff or something?

There's something called "Interline Baggage Transfer Agreement" which many airlines participate into. Some airlines like Southwest do not have such agreements ('m not sure if Frontier has it). So airline will tranfer you baggage to your onward airline at termination airport of their flight.

But they cannot issue boarding passes of non-related airlines and hence you will go to the checkin counter at LAX/SFO/SEA/DFW/IAH (or other airport) to get your onward boarding pass.

Yeah tear of the I-94 yourself.
 
ok, thanks. So I will check in all my luggage and at airport 2, i will go to the airline counter in the terminal itself (hope they have one) and then check in again and then proceed to the gate.

when you check in your luggage at airport1 they will give you sticker for your check in luggage just make sure that its till your final destination . thats it you are all set then.

Same is true for the return journey. Esp. in your case as you have 2 different tickets.

Make sure at Chennai (or Mumbai or wherever) you ask them to checkin your baggage to Denver. Of course you will have to claim the baggage at 1st US entry point and clear the customs, but you can hand it out to the airline rep right outside the customs. Otherwise, you might have to drag the bag to domestic checkin counter and re-check them in.
