Hello! Would like to know the options to study at US university while Asylum case is pending.

1- Can we Study at US university?
2- Are we considered local or international student?
3- What status we need to provide?
4- I know somebody whose son trying to get into university but got letter asking for I-485. What he can do?
5- What kind of tuition fee one needs to pay (in-state or international)

Please share the experiences who have themselves or their kids (while Asylum case pending) studied in US.
Thank You!

Hello,
I hope you’re doing well.
1- Yes, you can; I am studying now for my undergraduate and graduate programs.
2- It depends on the state you’re in. For example, in California, they will consider you as a resident student ( in-state) with your pending asylum, and you can get financial aid (Dream Act)
3- You show them your asylum receipt and your C08 EAD card.
4- Again, it depends on the state and school policy, but in general, show them any document proof that you are authorized to stay in the U.S.
5- Some states or schools, if you meet the physical presence requirement, will grant you in-state tuition status.
