STRIVE Act updates

we hoped many times and were dissappointed many times... the last year senate bill being the last.

It will become another political rallying point for all with half the senate and president roles going to polls.

The +ve side is:

They need latino vote
They need corp dollars (Corps need workers)

The question is Corps need workers or Corps need mostly H1-B workers. If you had a company and looking for a programmer, whom will you prefer, GC worker or H1B worker.
This may be the key why not many companies pushing for EB reforms?

The -ve side is:

Red neck congressmen from mid america
Race rhetoric clowns..

This time i am keeping my hopes low...

If you had a company and looking for a programmer, whom will you prefer, GC worker or H1B worker.

EB reform ..

I totally agree with desi3933 in that Corps are most concerned about H-1 quotas. There is no incentive for corps to push for EB reform. Infact, most recent laws have taken away from EB reform. Although extension of H1B status beyond 6 years is a great thing, it ensures that companies do not have to worry about losing employees on H1Bs after 6 years. Most companies know that they can get H1Bs for cheap and also realize that they have a upper hand because of the immigration issue. The current situation is ideal for most employers because they are able to retain a substantial number of H1Bs due to retrogression. I know that people can switch jobs and stuff but most H1Bs do not take chances and all this plays into the hands of coporations.

The best case scenario here is that EB reform gets tagged along with the H1-B increase. It is clear that EB reform does not have the political traction and much needed corp support to make it on its own. The only chance is for EB reforms to either tag along with CIR (mostly illegal) or H1-B increase. In an ideal world, EB reform would be tackled separately but much like most things in life, the situation is not ideal :)
