Start and End date of H1

Hi:

I just checked my old I-797 and the start dates and end dates are April 3rd, 2001 and March 5th, 2004 respectively. I thought H1 is issued for exactly 3 years - hence i expected the end date to be April 3rd, 2004.

Can anyone throw some light on what might have caused the dates to be this way?

Check your petition whether it was asking full 3 years.
