Hello everyone,

I have matched into a pediatric residency program which has also sponsored my H1. I was on H4 and changed my status to H1. I recently went to the Social security office to apply for a SSN. They did not accept my application and told me to come after July 1st because my approval notice has a date of July 1st. Is there any ruls like that? Any way around it?

Thanks

The rule is, unless you have valid work visa or permit H1 or EAD you are not eligible to get SSN. SO, your H1 must be valid to get your SSN.
