SSN apply

Hi,

My son9age 8 yrs) received I-485 approval notice in Aug'2005.I haven't received CARD yet.Can I apply SSN for him?
I'm planning to stamped his passort also on Oct'2005.
Can I go before passport stamped or can I go after passport stamped?

I went to SSN office on Sep23rd to apply SSN for my 9 year old son, SSN people said that they do not accept children's applications for those, who got GC recently. They also said that Home Land security will order the SSN for children under 14, and will receive the card in 4 to 8 weeks of receiving their plastic card.

Anybody has similar experience with SSN?

To be claimed on a tax return as a dependent child. My children had their SSN at 3 months of age.
