Spouse from H1 to H4

I am on a H1 visa and my time limit is expiring at the end of next year. My wife is on H4 and doing her USMLE. If she gets into residency as a H1 and my 6 year H1 timelimit expires would I be able to go to H4 status? Would she be able to apply for GC while doing residency or atleast after she completes residency?

Hi, Ti Jiang,
I'm in the same situation as yours. I have two more years on my H1, but my wife's H1 is expiring. Did you get your question answered? I even asked two lawyers, they gave me different answers. One told me the 6 year limit apply to H catagory, so regardless you are on H1 or H4, the total is 6 years. The other told me the 6 year only apply to H1.
