Sponsoring my brother - questions

Hi,
I am a US citizen and want to sponsor my brother and his family for PR and I have a couple of questions:

1. My brother holds a 5-year US visit visa, will his visa be canceled once I file I-130 for him and his family? Will he be denied entry into the US?
2. If his case gets current in 10 year and I am living overseas, can his case be still processed while I am outside of the US?

A1: His visa will not be automatically cancelled or voided when you file an i-130 for him. However it is very much possible that he may no longer be able to use it successfully to enter the US.
A2: He is looking at 12-15 years realistically. It is debatable if the case can continue if you move out of the US. An I-130 is primarily there for family reunion in the US.
