Hi All,

I became a USC in Jan 2011. Currently, my father is in India, my mom is no more. He's planning to visit US sometime next month. What documents should he bring with him if I am planning to sponsor his GC?

He has his Secondary School Certificate as proof of age. If this is not sufficient, he can get an affidavit from a relative older than him for his birth certificate. We do not have any other relatives who are older than him. Is one affidavit enough?

His name is listed in my birth certificate. Is it enough to establish relationship with him?

Should there be any affidavit of my parents' marriage? My mother passed away 2 years ago.

Any help would be much much appreciated!

Your father should NOT have intention to immigrate at the time of his visit to US.

Your father will require a letter of non-availability of birth from the village panchayat/city corporation where he was born.
You will also need a marriage certificate to show that your father was married to your mother when you were born. If a marriage certificate is not available, affidavits from close relatives who were present at his wedding are required and they should include date and place of marriage. Secondary evidence like your school records also will help.
