Sponsor - Job - Assets

I have a doubt and some questions regarding the sponsor thing. Has there been any change in the DV in later years? It used to be as far as I know that the difference between DV and other channels to obtain GC was that the lottery was just that: a lottery and there wasn't a need for a sponsor of any kind if you won the lottery.

I also find it suggestive that when you look around in the official websites for DV and such you cannot really find anything that tells you need a sponsor for the DV. In fact the form DS 230 has a space for sponsor but it seems to me this is because it is the same form used for other kind of visas leading to GC for which you do need a sponsor.

We called KCC to ask some questions and most questions received a quite straightforward answers except the one about sponsors. When we asked we we were told that the issue will be sorted during the interview and left it at that without clarifying if we need or not one, which was the question in first place.

From reading the experiences of many people in several consulates worldwide I find that many were not asked anything about sponsors, or assets of jobs or anything about finances. Could it be that actually there is not a regulation proper about sponsors but it is used discretionarily when the officer suspects the applicant might be in trouble finding job or supporting themselves?

Anyway, here is my question now, assuming all my disgressing above is wrong and I need as much as I can take to the interview.

A job offer is said to be enough as proof. Does a job offer need to be a concrete, already settled one? Or could it be a prospective jobe; for instance if I applied to a job within my profession and I have a letter stating they are considering my resume, would that be considered good? I am talking with a few possible employers and a couple are more likely and a few other might or might not be, but I have exchange of correspondence with all and eventually one would come up as the best. Would these letters etc. suffice or a job already secured is needed. (I guess that if a job already secure is what is needed then one would not need the DV and could go the traditional way?).

Another question. It is my spouse who won the DV but I am the one who actually works in our household, do the job offer/s have to be for my spouse or is it ok that I am the one offered the jobs even if my spouse is the main applicant?

Thanks a lot for reading.

Who know ??? Prepare your best for the interview !!! You must have one of education(atleast high school diploma) or work experiences(atleast two years of training) to qualify !!! Moreover, you need to prove that you will not be public charge ! For example, you should show fixed asset or money in your bank account.A job offer letter will also help you ! I didn't hear that DV lottery winners need a sponsor from USA !!!

Anyway,Good luck to you !

For me,I will show my apartment as my fixed asset, some money in my bank account and a job offer letter !

now it's getting interesting. Why should I try my luck on dv lottery if I have a sponsor, a job and a good amount of money in my bank account??? I can go there without DV lottery as well. then what is the point of DV lottery?

I own a house and a car in Europe; would it be enough for them???

Exactly eMach, that's my question! As David said I am getting ready as best as I can but still dont get the point. I read an awful lot of experiences and many of them are required to show 1)assets or 2)job offer or 3)sponsor.

The interesting thing is that some were not asked for any of the above 3 items. However, in some of the "helping" legal sites it is mentioned the there have been changes in the law so the sponsor thing has to be asked, but if this were the case then it should be asked of everyone, right?

Anyway, our best bet is probably that we have several good job opportunities. Does anybody know if the "job offer" is just a letter stating the offer or requires something else?

Thanks
JC

this is a great debate I believe. I mean I have a great job here. I get paid 14 € per hour (19 USD) in where I live. I have a house which is worth 138.000 € (180.000 USD) and 2007 model Dodge Caliber.

Why in the hell should I give all these up and apply for a new job from USA where pays 8 dollar per hour; find a sponsor and load my account with money?

i don't think DV lottery winners need to find a job or get a job offer. Finding a sponsor shouldn't be that hard. Create an account at facebook or myspace, find a girl. Your sponsor is ready.

Or

What If I wanna join the Army or the Marines?

This is madness.
If I win the lottery it means I won the god dang lottery.

It is not correct to compare your European paycheck with American. In many cases you will buy more goods for 8 bucks in US than for 14 euros in Europe.

Yes, you sure did, and you have your NL as a proof thereof. Frame it and hang on the wall. But the green card and all its privileges is a whole other story with its own set of rules. Your can have a house and a car somewhere in Europe, and still be a public charge in US. This is the point.

Yes,I also think that why should we need to show assets or sponsor or job offer ? I don't understand ! If this is a green card lottery,if we won,we should get green card without any questions !!! But,you play this kind of green card lottery, you must follow all of the instructions of the american government !

I think many europeans don't really want to go to USA right now because US economy is very bad now ! Only the asians and africans want to go to USA because they think that USA is better than their home countries !

I found this:

Do The DV Lottery Winner Will Need A Sponsor?

Yes. The DV Lottery winners must provide a sponsor from the USA. The Sponsor must be a citizen or can be a LPR holder. This requirement was made recently to prevent the DV Lottery winners from becoming a public charge. Normally public charge means that a person depending on government for the food, shelter and other benefits.

DV 2009 winners when going to the interview after receiving the second letter must provide this "Affidavit Of Support" to the consular officer. The consular officer will verify the validity of the document before issuing the Visa if the applicant is eligible for the visa.
There is a downloadable form Called I-134 it should be filled by the sponsoring person and must be sworn in front of any of the officials as recommended in the instruction manual. Sponsor must have the required earning or assets in USA.

View the Instruction and the downloadable form from the US Government web site.
Clickhttp://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-134.pdf

I have all the information on affidavit of support, already I have the I-134 form, but what I do not have is a sponsor, in the embassy they requested an affidavit of support of 32,300 usd for 5 people; however, I have a friend who gains 28,000 usd, she is single, unmarried; and she ask aid to the government for study. my question is. she can be my sponsor?

it wasn't a great source. It was a website about DV lottery FAQ. Not an official or trusted stuff you know.
Then just forget about it. The personal (and successful) experience of some people on this forum shows that it is not a certain document that the USCIS is looking for, but rather sufficient funds in any form.

if I can give you one advice .....-I'm also from "EU" and had even better pay per hour then you quoted (30+ benefits ) also have 2 flats + house back In EU but still for some stupid reason I left for the US thinking I don't know what (fell for that old mantra - "land of oportunity" etc.) for me it was total waste of time even when I worked in the US ; If you have all that back home just go to the USA for say 6 months and try to find some equaly paid job -if not get on the first plane home and don't look back -I agonized for 3 years and just made it worst before I did that ;
