Hi all,

I have seen similar posts but it doesn't really answer my question, I am to apply for naturalization, filing N in January, I have no convictions so far, the last experience i had with the law was, I was a given a ticket for speeding, doing 87 on an 60 speed high way. This happened in 2008. I pleaded guilty and sent the payment as I didn't want to go through the hassle of appearing at the court, the fine (including surcharge) came to $305.00, I had paid it off, but i do not have the receipt of the payment, but it is taken care of. Do i need to mention being given the speeding ticket on the N ? If I have to, how do i show that its paid for as i do not have the receipt for the payment

It has been addressed several times on this forum. Please make sure to read what you are looking for before you post your question. There are several answers in the forum, but I can tell you what you need. You have to mention it on N-400, but you don't need to enclose your ticket or proof of payment because the fine is less than $500. However, you might need it for the interview.

You can go to the court and ask for a copy of driving record (make sure it is certified -- it will tell you that it is paid). also you can go to dmv or mva and ask for a copy of driving records (showing how many points you have). Then bring them with you to the interview. It is very rare that interview officer ask for your driving records, but you never know.

i dont even remember which court it was :(
it was in another state.

if the records is absalutely necessary shall i produce the records from the dmv?

Where did the incident take place? You can track down the court if you remember where you got the ticket.

yeah if you know the county, you can go to the website of that county, and check which court it should be and the info of the court.
Also, you should be able to print out a DL record for your state by going to the DMV web site of your state. I think it costs like $11.00 online. (most states' DMV website has this function)

thanks guys, i could get the dmv records, thats not a problem like u guys said its just a matter of ten bucks, I'll try to get in touch with the court, its kinda hard as i dont remember the exact date of being given the ticket. but i'll call them and tell them about it, hope they can help me out

na, the DMV records just show how many points you have on your DL. i want to get the proof of payment, if its absalutely necessary. please advise

One question guys - do the IOs ask for proof of payment for all speeding tickets ?
I got one this year and partner got one - and for those 2 we have cashed checks - images.
But I got one in 2006 in OH and one in 2005 in WI - for which there absolutely is no proof with me. All the fines are in $60 - $130 range. All paid off.
We did not mention anything about these tickets on N400.

Are there any chances that this could cause issues ?
Thanks

Some IOs ask for proof of payment for minor ticket if they are disclosed. If you chose not to disclose them on application, unless the IO specifically ask about traffic tickets at interview you should be fine (assuming they are all minor).

No the DMV records wont show the payment history. You may want to get that record from the County Court.

But as bob said, if its minor and less than $500 they may not ask about it at all.

the way i remember it, it was $305.00

so should i disclose it or not?

Yes, you disclose it.

As per USCIS, documentary evidence is not required if the ticket was under $500.

If you can get proof without too much trouble, by all means - get it.

Technically, you can ask for a supervisor if the IO insists on seeing proof of payment on minor tickets as well, but I think we'd all agree that antagonizing the IO by going over his/her head should be an action of last resort - especially if you can avoid it for a few dollars.

Don't metion the tickets if the fine is under $500. I got interview today and got 2 tickets 4 months ago for cell phone and unsafe lane change. When the IO asked me" have you ever been arrested, cited or detained by any law enforcement officer? " I answered " No" then she moved on. The IO doesn't have minor traffic records.
