Please let me know if i am wrong.

During the Interview Process the interviewer goes through the N-400 Application line by line and all the YES/NO Questions.

Apart from the trips, the kids you have, the number of times you are married etc ??

Is there anything else we have to be careful about, concerned about ? Is this just a mere formality process.

Sorrry for asking this question, but i dont know the thought of meeting a live Immigration Officer in Person is just making me so nervous.

Sanjay,

A silly response to a silly question....:D I haven't personally gone through the N400 interview process, but I figure that USCIS process is similar in that their questions aren't necessarily tricky, but too legalistic and confusing to an average person void of any legal training. With that in mind, what is required is honesty and restraint in what one says before an IO. For example, if he asks you about traffic citations, no need to sound alarm of your innocence, the traffic court final say is that matters. Have you ever committed a crime of which you weren't arrested for? Your answer is NO even if you were speeding at 120mph in a 55mph zone en route to the interview...;)

In reading the guidelines which was issued to all USCIS office across the country, all IO charged with conducting naturalization interviews were advised to go through the questions line by line, to ensure that candidates are given the opportunity to respond to questions. In some cases from what I read from our fellows board members, some IO are too busy to go through all the questions and once they are satisfied that you are eligible, they immediately approve and recommend for you to be minted...:) Just hope your IO has a lunch date with a hot woman somewhere and is in a happy mood and will approve due to your good looks too... Remember that if you are honest, concise and focused on the questions at hand, then there is no need to be worried about meeting a live IO, i rather meet a live IO than a dead one cause I might be charged with his/her dead...;)

Just try to relax. Easier said than done :) It is natural to feel nervous and anxious. Most AOs (Adjudicating Officers) that conduct Naturalization interviews are very professional and cordial. Some go the extra yard to smile and make you comfortable. I got the other end of the spectrum, an AO that was not so pleasant :( Seriously, just focus on all the benefits and advantages of becoming a US citizen (ability to vote, US passport, applying for certain jobs, and most importantly, NO MORE STRESS from USCIS :) ) As long as you can meet eligibility requirements, and you were 100% honest on your N-400 application, and you have studied for the test, it should be a piece of cake. Relax, you have almost completed your journey to US citizenship. It is your right. Many immigrants have not and cannot make it this far. Please come back and tell us what a breeze and how smooth your interview was. Best wishes.

Thanks, Guys. That feels so relaxing.

On the actual form itself.

Parts 1 through 5 are simple and straight.

Part 6 A and B are simple as well.

Part 7 ( trips outside US ) = 0

Part 8 Specified - Married.

Part 9 No kids yet.

Part 10 is all yes and no

So thats all the info i had in my N400. Is there any particular section i have to focus on, read something remember somthing.

sanjay,

Just focus on the totality of your N400 application. I hope you have a copy of what you mailed to USCIS, refresh your memory. It is something that should be natural and not programmed into your mind. The interview is going to be easy because you don't have any issues which can cause fireworks, eg. DUI/Prostitutions. Just dress nicely and warmly, have breakfast/lunch or both so that your stomach doesn't tell the officer to hurry up because you are hungry...:D

Thanks, AL..

Oh yup., I did make sure to have a soft and a hard copy of the N-400 Appplication that i sent to the USCIS. I did go over them as well. :D:D:D

I made a copy so that i can review the application and make sure i am consistent with what is there on the form :-)

Also based on the advise Bob, you gave me earlier. I also have made copies of transcripts, have utility bills, etc..

I'll basically arrange them in 4 enveloppes big ones and mark them on the face , so i am not scrambling if the IO wants to see something :-)

Oh yeah, i will make sure to have bkfast and lunch. My interview is at 1.00 PM and i dont want to be starving for sure :-) lol

Your answer is NO even if you were speeding at 120mph in a 55mph zone en route to the interview...

A friend was ticketed for 135 in a 45 zone... 1986 Buick Grand National GNX... Lucky for him he was a USC :-)

Beeing nervous is natural, but for some reason you are over reacting and I have feeling that you have some issues or worries or you are worry that be questioned about something that has not been asked on N-400 directly or honestly you are hiding something that might question your eligibility for naturalization.Hopefully I am wrong. As my interview was coming closer, I was mentally more ready than ever for interview to the point that when I was sitting waiting for be called for interview, there was no fear or anything else and I was telling myself that there is nothing I should fear about since I am not lieing or hiding anything and that feeling helped me alot to the point that I was ready to defend aggresively any possible trick, stupid or offensive question might be asked by IO.I was so confident at interview and it helped me alot. If you have been honest about your application now and in the past, you should not even concern about it and don't lose sleep over it.

Thanks. Nope i have been 1000% HONEST.... Its just all these interview process, meeting live immigration officers is what i am nervous about.

I have proof for whatever i put down and have valid documents. So, i dont have anything to hide at all :-) :-) :)

Then don't worry about it and make IO nervous to ask stupid question and show %100 confidence that you have nothing to worry about. after all they know our rights even if we might not know them all ourselves.

Sanjay,

Just be relaxed. However, DO NOT be aggressive with your interviewing AO, even if he/she pushes your buttons. DO NOT get into a confrontational exchange. Keep your emotions out of it, and stay focused on obtaining a positive outcome. Remember that, the AO has considerable influence on deciding your approval, and it wouldn't be to your benefit to antagonize him/her in anyway. As long as you are eligible (good moral character, physical and continuous presence, attachment to US constitution and laws, proficiency in English, knowledge of US history and civics),and you can show with a preponderance of evidence, that this is the case (you DO NOT have to prove beyond reasonable doubt, like in criminal cases), you WILL receive your US citizenship.

Other mitigating factors are history of adequate IRS tax filing, not owing IRS money, not owing child support; which indirectly point to lacking good moral character. Also not being involved in criminal activities or lawless behavior. You also must never have voted or registered to vote.

Just watch your Ps and Qs, dot your Is and cross your Ts :) You will be fine. The bottom line is, the AO or the USCIS cannot deny your citizenship unless they have something CONCRETE to prove why they denied you. Attitiudes, allegations, suspicions, are not enough, in the eyes of the US judicial system, for you to be denied US citizenship, especially when all evidence points to your immutable and undeniable eligibility. In other words, if you have done or said NOTHING wrong, you will be fine. The US court system, protects you, in the event, that the USCIS abuses their power.

Relax, it is just a matter of time, before you and your family become bona fide US CITIZENS!!! :)

I really want to take just two minutes and thank all you guys. I was such a nerve wreck, thinking way over board. Apparently after spending time reading all the experiences i think i am all set to go for my interview next week and nail it :-) :-) :-)

Thanks guys....All of you are absolutely wonderful.

Were you ever held captive in a Turkish prison?

Relax Sanjay73, everything will work out in the end. You won't feel a thing ;)

Sanjay,

As everyone else has already pointed out...there is no need to worry. Asorock actually put it very nicely. Unless you have done something terribly wrong, they cannot deny you this right.

Having said this, I was in a similar situation during my GC process about 5 years back. For some reason, my I-485 (EB) was transferred to the local office for an interview. That freaked me out then and I felt like you are feeling now. I had no idea as why they picked me for an interview when all my friends got their applications approved without one. But, I have got to tell you that the interview experience was very pleasant. These IOs are actually very friendly, something you don’t expect from Federal employees that have some powers. My citizenship interview is in a couple of weeks, and I am not worried at all. Just prepare for the test and try to stay calm during the whole process.

When is your interview?

Good luck to you!

Thank you bhatsk,

After having read everyone's experiences and per the advice given by all the members on the forum, i think i am just worrying for nothing !!!!!

So, i am just preparing myself for the interview and thats about it :-)

Mine is scheduled on Monday at 1.00 PM at Charleston, DO.

Thanks.

Nice set of wheels. Black, I presume?

The GNX, which belonged to his boss (a company car actually) was black (all GNX's were I think)... Did not look like much, but had exceptional 0-60... He avoided outright arrest as he knew the judge (from another speeding conviction). The ticket was something like $400 in 1986 or so...
