SEVIS F1 Revoked, due to Change of Status??

Hi All,
I have an urgent situation here. I was an F1 student (not on OPT), and applied for H1 (Change of status) recently. My H1B was approved on July 8, 2004. (with start date of OCt 1) . And it seems like when my H1 was approved, my F1 was cancelled by INS. Right now, my OIP officials at school are not able to login to my SEVIS. In fact my SEVIS status says a message like 'Change of Status approved. F1 Visa revoked'. So, it seems like now I dont have an F1 Status in US.

Am I in legal status in US now? Would this qualify for the "extended grace period" for F1 students???

I think it qualifies. What does your international center say about it?

My International office is kinda clueless. THey told me since my H1 is approved I should be fine.

But I was on CPT till recently (till my F1 was revoked on Jul 8) and hence was able to work. CPT derives from F1 status and because of the revocation my CPT is not valid either I think.

So, can I continue to work now?

F1 was revoked because H1 was approved. Presence in the US is lawful as long as working for employer who sponsored the H1, unless application for transfer to another employer has been made and receipt obtained. One may then be lawfully present, working for the second employer. Without employment, H1 status is immediately unlawful.

I am in similar situation here.
My F1/OPT, set to expire in Jan. 11, was terminated in Aug. upon H1 petition approval.
My H1 will only start on Jan 01.
How did you resolve this situation?
Please advise.
