Sending my N400 application while in US and getting my fingerprints taken overseas in a US consulate

Hi everyone

I am trying to figure out how N400 applications can be processed while the applicant is in overseas after filing the application.

Here is my situation. I will be eligible to apply for US citizenship on May 10, 2010 (after 4 years and 9 months). I need to go to my home country for family reasons on May 10, 2010 as well. Given that I will be back in 5 months and 20 days, I am just wondering if I can send my application before my trip and request my fingerprints taken in a US consulate later on. There is a sentence in form M476 saying "If you are living overseas, USCIS will tell you to have your fingerprints taken at a U.S. consular office"

Can I apply from US and request my fingerprint appointment and possible my interview to take place in the US consulate?

I know that I can apply once I come back to US after my trip to my home country. I will still satisfy all application requirements, however I do not want to postpone my application.

Has anybody filed in US and handled the rest of the process from overseas? What would you recommend?

Thank you in advance.
